My husband and I completed Glyndwr’s Way South Route in 2005 and Glyndwr’s Way North Route in 2009, and were determined to walk the Great Glen Way the following year. Unfortunately in September ’09 my health started to deteriorate, so we’ve had a 5-year setback, but this year we completed the walk, and are already planning our next one. (Hadrian’s Wall!)
When planning this trip, I found that the resources on where to stop, where to get water, etc were scattered and generally a bit thin on the ground. In hindsight this is probably because most walkers of the GGW tend to be hostelling or walking between B&Bs with baggage transfer, so camping sites and water sources aren’t a priority. I was determined to ‘do a proper blog’ about it so that others wouldn’t find planning the trip so difficult. So here you’ll find the route we took, camping sites, water locations and route descriptions. I’ll also talk a bit about our kit (what worked, what we used & didn’t use, etc.).
We did the route in 6 days (Though it could be done in 7, with day 6 split into two with a camp half way). The following links will take you to the blog post for each route and list below (distance / climb). I’ve tried to keep these posts as visual as I can, with videos and photos with short descriptions. If you have any questions, you can contact me via the front page of my blog using the form and I’ll do my best to help!
